Esta obra foi inspirada nas Figueiras.
As figueiras são árvores que carregam um grande valor histórico e cultural. São árvores veneradas em muitas religiões e fazem parte do mito de criação em muitas culturas ao redor do mundo. Elas também, principalmente aqui no Brasil, representam a história por serem marcos da ocupação humana nas florestas e campos. Antigamente, as figueiras foram preservadas do corte e derrubada pelo seu valor simbólico e religioso, havia um respeito, uma sacralidade (pena que não foi assim para todas nossas espécies de árvores) e muitas foram deixadas no seu lugar, convenientemente também pela sua magnífica sombra.
Ao fazer essa obra fui despertada pelas figueiras que encontrei pelo meu caminho. Elas possuem algo de acolhedor, de colo, de abraço. Lembram infância. Talvez por sua imensa copa de folhas duras e brilhantes, seu tronco baixo de formas orgânicas trazem a sensação de casa, de lar, casa-árvore. E de fato são a casa para muitas espécies, vegetais e animais. Abrigam uma infinidade de outras vidas no “colo” de sua grandeza. Sua importância ecológica é imensa.
Descobri, que as Figueiras, biologicamente, são ainda mais incríveis. As figueiras dão suas flores dentro de um receptáculo carnoso, na verdade um pseudofruto (chamado de sicônio) - para entender melhor: aquele frutinho na forma de figo é na verdade uma "bolsinha de flores”. Lá dentro ficam as flores, escondidas e protegidas. Há somente um bicho que tem a “chave" para entrar neste receptáculo: a vespa da figueira. Esse inseto evoluiu junto com a árvore para ser o seu polinizador exclusivo! Em simbiose a vespa e a figueira são inseparáveis: não há figueira sem vespa, e não há vespa sem figueira. Essa relação de troca e interdependência é fantástica, nos revela o quanto a Natureza nos ensina em sua simples e - paradoxal - complexa existência.
Esta obra, “Figueira Fecunda”, é uma homenagem a essa árvore por todos seus atributos, externos-físicos, internos-imaginários, personificam o símbolo da fecundidade, doação e beleza, uma natureza que também está em nós, basta sentir para perceber. 

This work was inspired by the Fig trees.

Besides being beautiful, the fig trees carry a great historical and cultural value. They are venerated by religions and in many cultures around the world they take an important part in the creation myth. Also, here in Brazil, they represent history as landmarks of human occupation of the land. These trees were preserved from being cut because of their symbolic and religious values. They were respected as being sacred (pity it was not so for all our trees species) and conveniently they were left alone also because it provided a magnificent shade.

By painting this piece I was awakened by the fig trees that I found on my way. They have something cozy about them, a feeling of "lap" to nest, a hug. They remind childhood. Perhaps because of its immense canopy of hard and shiny leaves, its low trunk of organic forms gives the feeling of a house, a home, a tree-home. And indeed they are home to many species of plants and animals, they harbor a multitude of other lives on the "lap" of their grandeur. Their ecological importance is immense. I discovered that fig trees are even more amazing if you look into their biology. The fig trees give their flowers inside a fleshy receptacle, actually a pseudo-fruit (called a syconium) - to better understand what I’m talking about and simplify: that little fig-shaped fruit is actually a “flower bag”. Inside are the flowers, hidden and protected. There is only one animal that has the "key" to enter this receptacle: the fig wasp. This insect has evolved along with the tree to be its exclusive pollinator! In symbiosis the wasp and the fig tree are inseparable: there is no fig tree without a wasp, and no wasp without a fig tree. This relationship of exchange and interdependence is wonderful, it tells us how much Nature teaches us in its simple and - paradoxal - complex existence.

This work, "Figueira Fecunda", is a tribute to this tree for all its values, external-physical and internal-imaginary. They embody the power of fecundity, donation and beauty - natural atributes that is also inside us, we just need to feel to notice them.
